Phil and Sharlene

Phil & Sharlene’s Whole Home Remodeling Story

Four years ago, homeowners Phil and Sharlene decided it was finally time to remodel their worn and outdated, 4,000 sq. ft., Santa Fe style home. The house was originally built in 1982.

The couple purchased the four-bedroom home in 1995. Over the years, Phil said they gradually remodeled parts of the house “room by room.” The original kitchen, he said, was partitioned up with the work area, eating area and small sitting room all separated by counters and banks of cabinets. The couple decided that this area would be much more attractive and functional if was opened up into a single, more expansive, spacious area.

In addition, the kitchen’s original flooring was an uninviting, sterile, bright-white, ceramic tile which extended into the foyer, the hall bath, the laundry room and down the hall into the master bedroom. The couple said they also had outgrown their dimly lit master bedroom closets and wanted a fresh, updated look in their master bathroom. Continue reading….

AFTER

Phil and Sharlene started the remodel process by conducting online research and reaching out to friends about their experiences with contractors. After trimming their list down to four companies, they set up meetings with representatives from each and interviewed some of their clients. “After meeting with all four companies, there was no doubt in our mind that we would choose Republic West Remodeling (RWR) to help us with our remodel,” Phil said, noting that RWR team member Arthur Gambino spent several hours brainstorming with the couple during his initial visit.

To start, Arthur worked with the couple to design their “dream” oversized kitchen island and hutch. He also identified “the perfect spot for our double ovens.” In addition, he embraced the couple’s ideas for warmer-looking, wood ceiling beams in the kitchen, an eye-popping entry display case for their glass art, as well as a niche in the hallway wall for one of their treasured paintings.

“Arthur listened closely to our personal ideas for change and quickly came up with unique and creative solutions to the problems we had been struggling with,” Phils said. “The best part: he suggested a myriad of other distinctive design details which we would have never occurred to us.”

RWR’s interior designer, Kathy Molnar, also spent many hours with the couple, providing them with assistance, support and guidance in the selection of their counter tops, flooring and wall tile, plumbing fixtures, cabinet hardware, backsplash design, lighting fixtures and “many other small details too numerous to list.”

During the building phase, Phil said he was pleased with RWR’s responsiveness and professionalism. “The subcontractors always arrived on time and finished their work promptly,” he said. “And although we met him only briefly, RWR’s owner, Jim Wiseman, was very reasonable and helpful in resolving the unanticipated problems which commonly occur with an endeavor of this size.”

Phil said they have been extremely pleased with their home’s creative, updated design, and appreciate all of the unique suggestions RWR’s team offered to help beautify the space.

Phil added: “Shortly after the completion of the project, we had friends from California visiting. On the night they arrived, we were out, so we left them a key. They were aware that we had remodeled, but hadn’t visited since the completion. They told us that when they first opened the front door, they were stunned by the changes and actually stepped outside to double check the address – they thought they were in the wrong home! We think this truly expresses the extent of our home’s amazing transformation.”
