Jeff’s Guest House
Jeff bought his new home 3.5 years ago. Situated in a unique area of Phoenix with panoramic views of both Camelback Mountain and the Papago Buttes, it featured a large, detached garage which the previous owner used to house and work on race cars. Jeff intended to eventually turn the garage into a guest house rental property.
With the rise and convenience of companies like Airbnb, he decided it was time to pursue the home renovation and turn his dream of a guest house into reality. Since this was to be an income property, he set a strict budget and moved forward as his own remodeling contractor hiring various services such as electrical and HVAC companies in part to save money. After about a year of managing the process himself, he finally gave in to the frustration of constantly juggling everyone’s schedule, experiencing delays and working with “flaky” people.
Jeff contacted Jim Weisman, the owner of Republic West Remodeling. He decided it was worth it to pay a little more to have a professional remodeling contractor come in and manage the job effectively while bringing value-added services such as high-level design ideas. “This was a very budget oriented project and Kathy, the Designer at Republic West Remodeling, was great to work with”, said Jeff. “It required her shopping for décor at places she might not normally use but she worked hard to help me pick out quality items that worked well with the floor and cabinetry. She tied everything together.”
The moment Jeff turned the project over to Republic West Remodeling, he experienced relief. “This was harder than I thought and when Jim came onboard, he took the unknowns out of my project. The value is not only that I absolutely love the finished project but we ended up finishing on time and on budget. I had an Airbnb customer check into my new guest house the next day. You always hope you pick a good contractor”, said Jeff. “Jim and I are friends now and I would love to do another remodeling project with [Republic West Remodeling].”
