Grey a Hot Color for Kitchen and Bath Remodels

kitchen remodelIf you’re contemplating a remodeling project involving the kitchen and/or bathroom, the choice of colors will be a major decision. If you find it helpful to know what’s popular among other homeowners at the moment, you might be surprised at a trend that doesn’t seem very trendy at all: grey is in.

According to the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s “trends to watch for 2013,” grey color schemes in both kitchens and baths have been soaring in popularity for the past few years.

Particularly for those who may be considering selling their properties in the near future, this makes good financial sense. Sellers are generally advised to stick with neutral colors in order to appeal to the widest range of potential buyers. (Taking a risk by going with some really creative or offbeat color scheme or other design choices can really hurt you when it’s time to find a buyer for the property.)

It also makes sense from a style perspective. Grey is a somewhat unique color with the ability to be both natural and sophisticated at the same time. Depending on how it is used, it can work for an earthy feel, or for a clean, modern look.

Worried that grey may be a bit too understated? You can add flashes of color by incorporating bright, modern décor elements or fixtures. (In other words, things that can be easily removed or changed if you decide to put the home on the market.)
