Adapting to Home Improvement in Phoenix – Part 2

This is post is the second segment on home improvement in Phoenix.  Click here to read from part one.

home-improvementWhen it comes to home improvement in Phoenix, homeowners often make their decisions based on two things: what will enhance their living space and which project will provide the biggest return on investment.  The decision today is a little more complex given the meltdown of the real estate market.  Instead of moving, homeowners want to adapt their existing home to current requirements.

Another interesting finding of the recent survey is the motivation of homeowners for undergoing a home improvement in Phoenix.  Although return on investment has been an influential part of the remodeling decision, it has become a major decision factor with fewer homeowners.  Improved lifestyle is more important than increasing the value of their homes.

Additional survey findings include more than 60 percent of homeowners want to repair or replace old components such as windows and doors.  In addition, more than half of homeowners said they want upgraded amenities.  Other trends noted for home improvement in Phoenix include the following:

  • A premium is being placed on socializing and creating open gathering spaces.  In many cases, these spaces are replacing underused areas such as dens and home offices.
  • Home improvement in Phoenix has also become very cost conscious.  In other words, remodeling companies are focusing on the most efficient designs and construction techniques to save money.
  • Another trend taking place is multigenerational living.  Given the sour job market, more college graduates and young adults are finding it more difficult to live on their own.  So, they’re moving back in with mom and dad.

In addition, elderly parents who cannot live on their own are moving in with their children.  These seniors may not be able to afford assisted living or nursing home care.  The expanded space needs of these trends will increase the design for remodeling projects.

Home improvement in Phoenix is placing a premium on efficient use of space.  Homeowners want to make the most of their home’s square footage as both lifestyle and living needs dictate. Instead of moving when they outgrow their homes, homeowners want to adapt their existing home to their current requirements.
