Making a Bedroom Out of Garage Space

Garage Remodel In PhoenixWhen thinking about turning your garage into a bedroom, there’s a lot to take into consideration. From space issues and concerns about overall comfort levels, you also have to consider the impact it will have on the resale value of your home.

Create a Solid Game Plan

One of the first things you have to consider when converting a garage into any kind of living space is how to actually make it “livable.” Carefully examine the current state of your garage. For example, to become a comfortable space, it may need to be insulated, and drywall may need to be hung. Even if it is already finished, you may need to upgrade the space to include extra electrical outlets, light fixtures or other amenities.

You also need to decide if you’re going to leave the garage door as is, add insulation, or completely take it out and frame-in a new wall.

Finally, don’t forget the heating and cooling elements in the space. If the garage is already connected to the main unit in the house, any changes will likely be minor. However, if it isn’t, you will have to seriously weigh the costs of getting it connected to the HVAVC unit in your home against the costs of putting in its own unit.

Consider the Aesthetics

After the technical aspects of converting your garage into a bedroom are considered, you need to think about the aesthetics of the space. For instance, if you want a more “industrial” or modern feel, you might not have to do much in the way of flooring or lighting. However, if you want the room to resemble another style, such as traditional or transitional, you may need to factor in extra time and effort in order to transform it into a bedroom that actually looks like a room.

If you need the extra space, converting a garage in Phoenix into a bedroom is a viable idea. Just be sure to take all of the aspects involved into consideration.
