Storing It All: Kitchen Cabinetry Options

white kitchen cabinetWhen it comes to style and storage capabilities, kitchen cabinetry is reaching a new high in 2016.

Today’s cabinets are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they also are accommodating the typical homeowner’s need for more storage and better organization. And as homeowners decide to live in their homes longer (versus selling), cabinet plans and designs are shifting to reflect kitchens created with function, style and purpose in mind.

Here are some trends we will see increase in popularity in the coming year:

  • Cleaner lines. Cabinet door styles are becoming simpler, using clean lines, especially to accommodate the long-term homeowner. This trend is making modern cabinetry a popular option in many homes right now.
  • Horizontal style. We are seeing an increase in the use of horizontal orientation cabinetry. With cabinets that have a width of at least 36 inches, there is less need to stack cabinets vertically toward the ceiling. This design makes it much easier to reach key kitchen supplies inside.
  • Multipurpose. Many homeowners are grouping cabinets together for multipurpose, more functional uses. For instance, someone who loves to bake might design a “baking area” in the kitchen that features a main work surface, along with storage cabinets for baking supplies, cookbooks and ingredient essentials.
  • Technology storage. More and more of today’s homes are featuring cabinetry that can accommodate the “connected” way we live now. Whether it’s incorporating cabinets with built-in charging stations for electronics or creating eye-appealing, in-home workspaces for tablets and laptop computers.

Hot Cabinet Colors in 2016

As far as color, white kitchen cabinets are still a popular design choice in 2016 – and it will likely last for many years to come. Not only are white kitchen cabinets timeless, but they also make small kitchens look larger and brighter.

Gray is also quickly climbing the color ranks as some homeowners opt for a more neutral look that can match the rest of the home.

Over the years, kitchen-remodeling trends come and go. However, very few styles actually stand the test of time.
