Two Considerations for Home Remodel Contractors

Couple and remodeling contractor looking at blueprintsThe first time you have to try and hire a contractor to work on your home, you may be unsure of what to expect. Contractor and TV personality Mike Holmes recently offered some advice in his online column, directed toward people who may be preparing to look for a home improvement contractor.

His advice focused mainly on two specific issues: communication and cost.

Your contractor should maintain good communication, in that they should welcome your questions and make an effort to respond to your inquiries promptly. However, the term “promptly” should be considered within reason. As Holmes points out, successful contractors are usually busy, and don’t spend much time just sitting around by the phone. So it’s common for you to have to leave a message and wait for them to get back to you. However, you should get the impression that your call is important to them, and that they make an effort to attend to your inquiries as quickly as possible.

The issue of cost often involves a bit of a tricky balancing act. Like most people, you probably watch your budget carefully and don’t want to spend any more than you have to. On the other hand, choosing a contractor based solely on price can be something you later regret. This is a situation where you often get what you pay for, and contractors who promise to do a job for an unbelievable low price may be planning to cut corners, or perhaps don’t intend to actually finish the job at all.

RW Remodeling is proud to be one of the top home remodel contractors in Phoenix, and we always made good communications and budget constraints two of our highest priorities.
